South Africans from across the country are gathering in Limpopo today as the funeral service of David Sejobe takes place at Mukondeni Village, marking an emotional farewell to a man remembered for his warmth and humility.

Sejobe, a MultiChoice security officer widely known for his friendly greetings and infectious smile, died last week after being struck by a vehicle in what police are investigating as a suspected hit-and-run incident. He was cycling to work at the time of the crash.

The 49-year-old’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief nationwide, with colleagues, public figures and members of the public sharing tributes that highlight the impact he had far beyond his workplace.

Tributes pour in as Limpopo bids farewell to David Sejobe

On Friday, members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng gathered at the MultiChoice Group head offices in Randburg to honour Sejobe’s life and legacy.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the EFF described Sejobe as a hardworking and dedicated employee who supported his family under the difficult conditions often faced within the private security industry.

Sejobe died after being hit by a vehicle while cycling along the Golden Highway, an incident that has renewed calls for accountability and justice.

EFF renews call for security guard insourcing and accountability

The EFF reiterated its long-standing campaign for the insourcing of security guards, arguing that outsourcing has led to exploitation and the loss of essential worker benefits.

“The treatment of security guards is a reflection of systemic injustices that must be addressed,” the statement read.

The party also criticised the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), alleging that it has failed to adequately protect workers and ensure the safety of their pension funds.

Appeal for information in suspected hit-and-run case

The EFF urged the motorist involved in Sejobe’s death to come forward and assist police with their investigation. “The Sejobe family deserves answers and closure.”

An appeal was also made to members of the public who may have information that could help identify the driver involved in the crash.

As mourners gather in Limpopo, Sejobe is being remembered not only as a security guard, but as a symbol of dignity, kindness and the everyday humanity that touched countless lives.
