Daveyton Shooting: Two Of Five Traffic Wardens In Critical Condition, Says Lesufi

Two of the five traffic wardens who were shot during a patrol in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, remain in critical condition, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has confirmed.

The shooting took place on Sunday at the Daveyton Railway Station, where the officers came under fire while attempting to search 12 people.

Lesufi visited the injured wardens in hospital and revealed that one remains unconscious in intensive care while the other has regained consciousness but is still in ICU.

“One is seriously critical in intensive care. The other one is also in the intensive care unit, at least she’s conscious. I managed to exchange some greeting with her and to indicate our support to her,” said Lesufi.

The Premier added that the remaining wardens are making steady progress. “The other two, I think they are recovering very well. I think they will be discharged soon but the doctors are still giving them the necessary support,” he said.

The driver of the patrol vehicle, who was also shot, has already been discharged from hospital despite still having a bullet lodged in his shoulder. “The medical teams have advised him to take it easy and that they will call him at the right moment,” Lesufi explained.

Authorities are investigating the incident while the families of the injured wardens wait anxiously for updates on their recovery.
