WATCH| Dashcam Captures Emmarentia Road Rage Shooting As Suspect Walks Free

Dashcam footage capturing the fatal Emmarentia road rage shooting has surfaced, showing the moments before gunfire erupted in an incident that has since left one man dead and another injured.

Dashcam Footage Shows Confrontation Before Gunfire

The video, which has circulated widely on social media, shows two vehicles stopped on Barry Hertzog Avenue following what appears to be a minor collision.

Occupants from both vehicles are seen outside, engaged in a heated exchange that quickly escalates. Movement between the individuals suggests a confrontation before gunshots are heard.

Moments later, one man collapses, while others at the scene react in panic as the situation unfolds. A woman tries to reach out to an object close to the man but is also shot.

Suspect Walks Free Pending Investigation

The footage has emerged as the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the 58-year-old man arrested in connection with the shooting will not be prosecuted at this stage.

The suspect had been expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder following the death of Faisal ul Rehman.

NPA spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said: “After careful consideration of the evidence of the alleged road rage incident which occurred in Emmarentia, the NPA has decided not to prosecute the matter pending further investigation.”

The suspect’s legal team maintains he acted in self-defence, alleging that the confrontation escalated after a collision and that shots were fired at him before he returned fire.

Police have previously indicated that the incident followed a minor crash that escalated into a shooting involving firearms from both sides.

Investigations into charges of murder and attempted murder remain ongoing.

Video Intensifies Public Reaction

The circulation of the footage has intensified public reaction to the case, particularly as it shows the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the video will form part of the official evidence, but it is expected to be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The NPA said a final decision on prosecution will depend on the outcome of further investigative work.
