Dagga Bust In Nababeep: Police Seize 291 Cannabis Plants After Community Tip-Off

A joint effort between local residents and police has led to the seizure of hundreds of dagga plants in Nababeep in the Northern Cape.

Officers from Nababeep police station, working alongside detectives from Springbok, confiscated 291 cannabis plants during an operation on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

The bust followed information supplied by members of the community regarding suspected illegal cultivation at a property in the area.

Community Tip-Off Leads to Dagga Cultivation Discovery

Police were carrying out tracing operations in Nababeep when they acted on intelligence about alleged dagga cultivation at a local premises.

Officers moved in to verify the information and conducted a search of the property.

During the search, authorities discovered hundreds of cannabis plants growing on the premises. The plants were immediately seized as evidence.

40-Year-Old Man Arrested in Nababeep Drug Operation

Following the discovery, police arrested a 40-year-old man believed to be responsible for cultivating the plants.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon on charges related to the cultivation of dagga.

Police have not yet disclosed the exact date of his court appearance.

Namakwa District Commissioner Brigadier Schalk Andrews applauded the officers involved in the operation for their continued work in combating drug-related crimes in the region.

He also expressed appreciation to community members who provided information that helped authorities uncover the illegal operation.

Police say cooperation between law enforcement and residents remains vital in addressing drug activity and improving safety across the district.
