DA Announces Next 11 Mayoral Candidates For Western Cape Local Elections Push

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has revealed a further group of 11 mayoral candidates set to contest the upcoming local government elections across the Western Cape.
The latest announcement covers several key municipalities in the province, including Bitou, Drakenstein, George and Stellenbosch, as the party continues to finalise its leadership slate.
Speaking on Tuesday, DA leader and Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said the party expects its candidates to distinguish themselves and demonstrate their ability to govern inclusively.
DA Mayoral Candidate Selection Process In Focus
Hill-Lewis emphasised that the DA’s approach to candidate selection is deliberate and structured, noting that the party prioritises readiness and community familiarity ahead of elections.
“We are not a party run on patronage. We are not a party whatever today’s wishes are of the leader that just tweets it out or puts it on Facebook. We are a party of proper institutions that deliver better governance over time.”
He added that announcing candidates ahead of time allows them to engage meaningfully with residents in the areas they aim to lead.

Hill-Lewis also pointed out that he is currently undergoing the same internal process as other candidates, as he seeks nomination for a second term as Cape Town mayor.
“I’m also personally going through that same process, so I know exactly what you are going through, and that process is still ongoing. But I know how fair and rigorous the DA’s processes are.”
With this latest announcement, the DA has now named 26 of its intended 30 mayoral candidates in the Western Cape, signalling an advanced stage in its election preparations.
