Cyan Boujee Speaks After Starring In Showmax’s New Docuseries ‘Slay Queens’

South African DJ, YouTuber, and influencer Cyan Boujee—real name Honour Zuma—is taking her story to the small screen.

The 24-year-old star will feature in Slay Queens, a bold new five-part Showmax Original docuseries premiering on 31 October, with fresh episodes dropping every Friday.

Produced by Vusi Zion and his creative team at Kaimal Pictures, the documentary peels back the glittering layers of the “soft life” culture—a world where women chase luxury, independence, and status by any means necessary.

Zion, who also created the Showmax hit Soft Life, returns with another provocative look at modern South African society.

Following the release of the Slay Queens trailer, Cyan took to her Instagram Stories to share her playful reaction.

“LOL!! The Showmax post says slay queen… the reality is I’m just the baddie in the documentary. Cute mix-up. Let’s have a perceptive after watching. Thanks bye,” she wrote.

Known for her unapologetic confidence and headline-making moments, Cyan opens up in the docuseries about life under the spotlight—the pressure to stay relevant, the emotional toll of fame, and what it really takes to maintain her brand in a world quick to judge.

Vusi Zion’s Vision: “A Mirror to a Hidden World”

Executive producer Vusi Zion says Slay Queens is about starting difficult conversations often confined to whispers and memes.

“Slay Queens was born from a need to hold up a mirror to a world we often speak about in whispers, memes, or judgment, but rarely listen to directly,” Zion explained. “I was inspired by the courage of women who live these realities every day, by the men and communities affected, and by the silence surrounding their truths.”

He added that the goal is not to “sanitise or sensationalise,” but to create a platform for real stories—from those glamorised, misunderstood, or dismissed online.

A Star-Studded Cast Explores the “Slay Queen Era”

The series doesn’t just focus on influencers. It also features Mr JazziQ, the award-winning Amapiano DJ and owner of Johannesburg’s popular Vibes on Main nightclub, who offers an insider’s look into nightlife culture.

Adding another layer, Jackie Phamotse, author of the best-selling Bare, reflects on her own experiences as a former slay queen, while Lebo Masango, author of The Soft Life: Love, Choice and Modern Dating, provides academic and cultural insight into why this lifestyle continues to thrive.
