Cwecwe’s Mother In Car Accident Amid Investigation – Coincidence Or Something More?

The mother of seven-year-old Cwecwe, the child at the center of a high-profile rape case, was involved in a car accident on Wednesday, April 2, while on her way to meet with police investigators.

Fortunately, she escaped unharmed, but the timing of the crash has fueled public speculation and concern over the handling of the case.

Authorities Confirm Cwecwe Mother’s Incident

Police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana verified the accident, stating that the mother was en route to meet Major-General Mmantsheke Lekhele when the crash occurred.

“The young girl’s mother was involved in a car accident on her way to meet Major-General Mmantsheke Lekhele. Fortunately, she was unharmed, and necessary support was provided to her by employees of Health and the Wellness team. She is in good health and is currently meeting with Major-General Lekhele,” Gantana assured the public.

The mother has been at the forefront of the fight for justice since October 2024, when her daughter was allegedly raped at Bergview Primary College in Matatiele, Eastern Cape while waiting for school transport.

Public Outrage Over Lack of Arrests

Despite nationwide protests and public outcry, no arrests have been made in the case, sparking fury across South Africa.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has urged the public to allow the investigation to follow due process, emphasising that police are working diligently to ensure justice is served.

Eastern Cape Education MEC Fundile Gade has suggested temporarily revoking Bergview College’s operating license to force cooperation in the investigation.

Government Under Pressure

Authorities from the police, social development, justice, and education ministries have been mobilised to handle the case. The SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) has been deployed to investigate. The Justice Department is vetting all Bergview College staff members. Social Development MEC Bukiwe Fanta has assured continued psychosocial support for Cwecwe’s family.

With no arrests made, and now the mother’s mysterious car crash, South Africans are demanding answers.
