Crime Intelligence Boss Dumisani Khumalo’s Bail Bid Delayed As Pretoria Court Faces Flooding

The bail amendment application of Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo has once again hit a delay. Proceedings at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court were halted on Monday after several courtrooms were flooded over the weekend.

Khumalo, along with three of his co-accused, was due to hear judgment on the matter. Prosecutors, however, confirmed that the hearing could not proceed.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t sit today. When we got here, we were told that most of the courtrooms flooded over the weekend – our matter had to be postponed,” said Investigating Directorate spokesperson Henry Mamothame.

Fraud and Corruption Charges Against Dumisani Khumalo Still in Play

Khumalo and six others face fraud and corruption charges linked to the appointment of 30-year-old Dineo Mokwele to an executive role in Crime Intelligence.

Prosecutors allege Mokwele lacked the necessary policing expertise, but an internal SAPS process has since cleared all parties of wrongdoing. Despite this, the Investigating Directorate continues to pursue the case against them.

As part of their bail conditions set in June, Khumalo and his co-accused were barred from entering Crime Intelligence premises. With SAPS having cleared them internally, the group has applied to have this restriction overturned.

Mamothame confirmed that the case could return to court later this week if clean-up efforts conclude. “We will possibly come back on Friday, should the clean-up be completed. However, if the clean-up is not completed the matter will sit on 29 September,” he explained.

Earlier this month, the matter was also forced to move to the Commercial Crimes Court due to a lack of available courtrooms at the magistrates’ court.
