CPF Member Arrested For Drunk Driving Despite ‘Boasting’ On Ties With Police

A KwaZulu-Natal community policing forum (CPF) member has been arrested for drunk driving after allegedly boasting about his connections to a police captain during a roadblock in Port Shepstone.
Roadblock Operation
The arrest took place on Friday during a multidisciplinary roadblock executed by the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI). KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Sibiniso Duma, praised the RTI team for their swift action.
“Despite boasting about his high profile and his proximity to an unnamed SAPS captain, a visibly drunk member of the Community Policing Forum in Port Shepstone was arrested for drunk driving,” Duma said.
Transport Month Warning
Duma added that this incident should serve as a warning ahead of October, which marks Transport Month, when traffic law enforcement will be intensified.
“I am aware that scores of motorists are being processed at Port Shepstone police station. I have mandated the RTI team to be firm and arrest more motorists for drinking and driving during October,” he stated.
The MEC confirmed that ongoing roadblocks will continue across KwaZulu-Natal in the build-up to the festive season as authorities crack down on reckless driving.
