Cottonlands Drama: Man Threatens Rat Poison After Breakup, Found Safe

A man in Cottonlands, KwaZulu-Natal, was found safe at his home on Wednesday after allegedly threatening to consume rat poison after his girlfriend told him she was breaking up with him.
The incident was reported to the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre by a woman who said her boyfriend intended to take his life following an argument over infidelity.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the man’s residence after the caller provided his location.

When officers arrived, they found the man lying in bed watching a movie. He explained that he had recently discovered his girlfriend was unfaithful, which led to their breakup.
He admitted to being emotionally distressed and, in an attempt to reconcile, sent her a WhatsApp message threatening to drink rat poison.

After reading the message, the girlfriend alerted her sister, who then contacted RUSA for urgent help. During questioning in front of his family, the man confirmed that he did not have rat poison and never intended to end his life.
