A 41-year-old Congolese national was arrested in Yeoville, Johannesburg, on Thursday evening in connection with the horrific torture and abuse case linked to Zanzou nightclub in Hatfield.
The suspect was identified by Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officials after recognising him from viral videos depicting the abuse.
Disturbing Videos Spark Nationwide Outrage
The arrest comes after a series of disturbing videos surfaced on social media, showing a group of young men being subjected to severe torture and sexual humiliation.

Victims were forced to perform lewd acts with their hands and objects, while others endured waterboarding—a well-known torture technique where a cloth is placed over a person’s head before they are drenched in water to induce the sensation of drowning.
Charges and Ongoing Investigations
The arrested suspect is facing multiple charges, including compelled rape, assault, crimen injuria, intimidation, and kidnapping. National police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing as they continue to hunt for the remaining seven suspects, all believed to be foreign nationals.
In a new development, additional victims have stepped forward to lay charges at the Brooklyn Police Station, adding to the gravity of the case.
