ConCourt To Hand Down Judgment On MK Party’s Challenge To Madlanga Inquiry

The CoCourt is set to deliver its full judgment on Friday regarding the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) and former President Jacob Zuma’s unsuccessful attempt to block President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decisions that led to the establishment of the Madlanga Commission.
In July, the apex court dismissed MKP’s application for direct access, stating that the matter did not fall within its jurisdiction. The latest ruling will provide detailed reasons behind that order.
Zuma and MKP Challenge Ramaphosa’s Decisions at ConCourt
MKP and Zuma had sought to challenge three related decisions by President Ramaphosa — placing Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on a leave of absence, appointing Firoz Cachalia, and establishing the Madlanga Commission.
However, their recent bid to revive the matter in the Pretoria High Court was struck from the roll due to a lack of urgency.
Madlanga Commission at the Centre of Dispute
President Ramaphosa set up the Madlanga Commission after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi alleged that senior police officials were interfering in police operations and had connections with criminal syndicates.

The commission’s work is expected to shine a light on the extent of political and criminal interference within law enforcement structures.
