Community Apprehends Rapist In Botlokwa After Rescuing Teenage Victim

Limpopo’s top police officer has commended the swift actions of the Botlokwa community after they rescued a 15-year-old rape victim and apprehended the alleged attacker.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the public’s intervention, which led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man.

Swift Community Action in Botlokwa

The incident occurred in the Dikgolaneng area of Botlokwa on Saturday, 4 October 2025, at around 15:30.

Police reports indicate that the 15-year-old victim was returning from an errand to collect plastics with two friends when the suspect approached them. The man allegedly grabbed the teenager and tried to force her to go with him.

Although the victim initially resisted and managed to break free, the suspect gave chase. He subsequently dragged her into a nearby bushy area. There, the assailant threatened the girl with a knife and assaulted her with a belt before raping her.

From Rescue to Arrest: Suspect in Custody

The attack was halted when alert community members intervened. They successfully rescued the victim and physically apprehended the suspect, holding him until police officers summoned to the scene could make a formal arrest.

The 37-year-old male now faces charges of rape and is in police custody. He is scheduled to appear before the Morebeng Magistrate’s Court soon.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe stated: “The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has praised the Botlokwa community for coming to the rescue of a rape victim and nabbed the suspect.”
