Colesberg Police Seize R12.3 Million Dagga Haul After High-Speed N1 Interception

Police in Colesberg have halted a major drug trafficking run on the N1, arresting a 39-year-old foreign national and confiscating cannabis valued at around R12.3 million.
The early-morning operation unfolded on Thursday, 13 November 2025, when members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) acted on urgent intelligence about a suspected narcotics shipment.
Officers tracked the targeted Isuzu pickup travelling toward the Eastern Cape and moved in at approximately 05:00. The vehicle was pulled over near a local petrol station, where police uncovered multiple bags of cannabis hidden in the back.

The suspect was arrested at the scene. Pixley ka Seme District Commissioner Major General Nomana Mtukushe applauded the swift action of her officers and expressed gratitude to residents for supplying “valuable information regarding criminal activities.”
General Mtukushe also delivered a strong message to traffickers, warning that the use of national routes to transport narcotics “will not be tolerated,” especially as the festive season approaches.

The arrested man is expected to appear in court shortly to face a charge of illegal dealing in drugs.
