Coke’s AI Holiday Ad Misses The Mark

Coca-Cola decided to give their classic holiday commercial a modern twist using artificial intelligence, but let’s just say the internet isn’t feeling the festive vibes.

The iconic “Holidays Are Coming” ad from the ’90s, you know the one with the twinkling Coke trucks rolling through a snowy town, got an AI makeover, and it’s not exactly spreading cheer.

Coke’s New AI Spin

The revamped ad keeps the familiar concept of Coke trucks bringing holiday magic. But this time, it’s filled with AI-generated elements, including polar bears, which are a nod to their famous holiday mascots. However, the ad has that weird AI look – everything’s a bit too shiny, and the movements are just a tad off.

People on social media were quick to share their thoughts, and they’re not impressed. One user on X (formerly Twitter), Brenden Gallagher, said it looks like a poor imitation of the classic. Another user, @MoistyJc, went so far as to say it felt like watching the death of art and the planet unfold. Yikes!

 

The Critique

James Vargas-Maclean didn’t hold back either, calling the ad creepy and suggesting that Coca-Cola can no longer claim “It’s always the real thing.” He even called for a Coke boycott. Despite the AI-generated scenes, the song still proclaims, “It’s always the real thing,” but it seems people aren’t buying it.

It looks like Coke’s attempt to blend nostalgia with new tech didn’t hit the right note for many. AI is definitely making its way into more ads, but maybe some classics are better left untouched.
