Church Members Robbed At Gunpoint  During Night Prayer Service

Three armed robbers stormed a Kwamhlanga church in Mpumalanga during a late-night prayer service, causing panic and fear among congregants.

The attack took place at approximately 2:30 am when the worshippers were deep in prayer.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the robbers fired a gunshot before forcing their way into the church.

Suspects Demand Valuables From Congregants

The perpetrators, wearing balaclavas and speaking Sesotho, barged into the church after the gunshot was heard, and immediately began demanding valuables from the terrified worshippers.

The robbers stole cash offerings and mobile phones from several congregants before fleeing the scene.

The stolen cash amount has yet to be disclosed.

Police Investigate

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched an investigation into the robbery and is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance, particularly as the Easter holidays approach.

Mkhwanazi warned that criminals often target unsuspecting victims, especially in places of worship during such times.

Congregants and residents are advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
