Chinese National Shot Dead In Cape Town

Cape Town police are investigating the murder of a 32-year-old Chinese national who was shot and killed late Sunday night, 21 September 2025, in Townsend Estate along Voortrekker Road.

The incident occurred at around 11:15 pm. According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, officers arrived at the scene and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead by medical personnel.

Twigg confirmed: “Goodwood police registered a murder case for investigation following a shooting incident in Voortrekker Road, Townsend Estate, on Sunday night, 21 September 2025, at about 23:15, in which a 32-year-old Chinese national was shot and fatally wounded.

“Police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation and arrests are yet to be made.”

Community Police Forum Raises Concerns

Goodwood Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson Abdallah Sydney expressed concern about the increasing number of shootings along Voortrekker Road.

“At this stage, the circumstances and possible motive remain under police investigation, and it would be premature to speculate until SAPS concludes their inquiries,” Sydney said.

He added that the area has become a focus point for safety concerns and that the CPF is working with police and other stakeholders to boost visible policing. “There are plans of action in motion to address these concerns. We extend our condolences to the family of the deceased and urge community members with any information related to the incident to come forward to SAPS.”

Police Appeal for Information In Killing Of Chinese National

Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. Information can be shared anonymously via Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS mobile app.

The investigation remains ongoing.
