Kaizer Chiefs’ Carling Knockout Cup journey came to an abrupt end after a tense 5-4 penalty shootout loss to Stellenbosch FC at Cape Town Stadium.

Both sides battled fiercely in regular time, but neither could find the decisive goal, sending the match into penalties where Stellies kept their composure to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere, Richards Bay delivered a commanding performance, thrashing Chippa United 4-1 to also progress to the next round of the competition.

Magesi Begin Title Defence with Gritty Win Over AmaZulu

Defending champions Magesi FC kicked off their title defence with a thrilling 3-2 victory over AmaZulu at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The visitors started brightly, racing to a 2-0 halftime lead through goals from Kgomotso Mosadi and Abbey Junior Seseane. AmaZulu fought back strongly in the second half, with Athini Maqokola pulling one back and Mlondi Mbanjwa levelling the score with just under 20 minutes remaining.

However, Magesi found a late winner when a deflected set-piece crept into the back of the net, ensuring their progression to the last eight of the competition.
