Ceres Man Explains Why He Raped Teenage Boy: “I Felt Like It And Couldn’t Stop”

Leano Vergotine, a 41-year-old man from Ceres, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for the continuation of his rape trial.

The defence had planned to call a witness, but the person failed to show up. Vergotine now faces a staggering 18 counts, including rape, kidnapping, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, attempted rape, using children for child pornography, creation of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

Gruesome Video Evidence Revealed in Court

The State alleges Vergotine kidnapped a 16-year-old girl on September 10, 2022, and threatened her into consenting to sexual penetration while photographing her private parts.
Court documents read: “The accused unlawfully and intentionally committed an act of sexual penetration with the complainant by penetrating her anus with his penis without the consent of the said complainant.”

The following day, the accused allegedly raped a 15-year-old boy by penetrating his anus without consent while recording a video. The court heard that a judge, State prosecutor, defence team, and investigating officer all viewed the footage.

The accused tells the complainant because he is pinching it is sore. The accused says, ‘hy gaan nou breek’, and then asks the complainant, ‘kry jy swak vir dit?’, and he tells the complainant hy ‘is maar tingerig’.”

“I Felt Like It”—Ceres Accused’s Chilling Explanation

State Prosecutor Renee Uys cross-examined Vergotine on Monday about why he raped the 15-year-old minor. He replied: “I felt like it. I couldn’t control myself.”

He further claimed the sexual encounter with the 16-year-old girl was consensual vaginal penetration and denied anally penetrating her. The court heard he said he assaulted her because “she was drunk”, and the following morning she could not remember the incident.

Uys then asked the accused whether he regularly has sex with people too drunk to consent. He answered: “Is nie soe nie.”

Vergotine also faces charges of sexually grooming and raping a nine-year-old boy, as well as offering a 12-year-old boy money and gifts in exchange for pictures of his private parts. The case has been postponed to April 22.
