Cartrack Employee Alleges Staff Were Told To Stay Silent Following Gcina Dhladhla’s Death

Fresh allegations have emerged against Cartrack after an employee claimed workers were discouraged from speaking about the death of colleague Gcina Dhladhla, who died while at work last week.

The claims come amid growing public scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding the 29-year-old’s death. Dhladhla had allegedly informed her supervisor that she was feeling ill before the incident, although Cartrack has rejected allegations that she was prevented from leaving work.

A demonstration is expected outside the company’s Rosebank offices on Thursday, with protesters calling for greater transparency and accountability over the incident.

Gcina Dhladhla Death Sparks New Claims From Cartrack Employees

The death of Gcina Dhladhla has triggered a wave of complaints from current and former employees, many of whom have raised concerns about workplace practices at Cartrack.

Public attention intensified following media coverage of the incident, which also helped generate support for Dhladhla’s family. Several workers have since come forward with additional allegations relating to conditions at the company’s headquarters.

Among the concerns raised are longstanding claims that lifts within the building are primarily reserved for management, alongside other grievances about the workplace environment.

Cartrack Rejects Allegations Over Medical Response

Cartrack has maintained that Dhladhla was never denied permission to leave work and said assistance was provided immediately after she collapsed.

According to the company, “highly trained first-aid officers” responded to the emergency before medical services arrived. However, one employee has disputed that account.

Speaking anonymously for fear of retaliation, the worker alleged that staff struggled to locate first-aid resources and personnel with the necessary medical training.

“Gcina did report that day that she was not okay. And, no, there were no first responders or relevant machinery to resuscitate her. Around 08:30, we saw a lady from our fleet department entering the control room looking for a first aid [kit].

“And then they were running around in circles looking for someone who might know CPR [Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation],” she said.

“About 20 minutes later, they finally found a lady by the control room who’s also an agent… we also found out that she was once a paramedic and went to school for it. She then ran to where Gcina was and started the CPR on Gcina and everything she knew to resuscitate her. This was happening while they were calling an ambulance.”

Claims Staff Were Told To Remain Silent After Gcina Dhladhla Incident

The employee further alleged that workers who witnessed the incident were instructed not to discuss what had happened.

According to the source, some employees who assisted during the emergency were allegedly offered money, described as a gratuity, following the incident. The claims have not been independently verified.

The allegations are likely to add to mounting pressure on the company as questions continue to be raised about the events leading up to Dhladhla’s death.

Dhladhla is expected to be laid to rest on Saturday, while calls for answers from both her family and members of the public continue to grow.
