Carjacking Chaos: Four Suspects Arrested After Stolen Toyota Quantum Flips During Police Chase

Four men have been arrested following a carjacking that unfolded in the early hours of Monday morning at traffic lights in Mothibistad.

The incident happened at around 02:00 when a motorist driving a Toyota Quantum was reportedly confronted by four suspects armed with knives.

According to police, the suspects robbed the driver of the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Police chase ends after stolen vehicle overturns

The victim managed to escape without injury and quickly reported the incident at the Mothibistad police station.

Police officers responded immediately, launching a search operation with assistance from the Highway Patrol and a vehicle tracking company.

During the pursuit, the suspects lost control of the stolen Toyota Quantum near Logaganeng, causing the vehicle to overturn.

All four suspects, aged between 19 and 23, were arrested at the scene. Police said they sustained minor injuries in the crash and were treated before being taken into custody.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges of carjacking and robbery.

SAPS urges motorists to stay alert amid carjacking risks

Following the incident, police reminded motorists to remain cautious, especially when stopping at traffic lights or stop signs where carjackings frequently occur.

Drivers are encouraged to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, stay aware of their surroundings and avoid distractions such as using a cellphone while behind the wheel.
