Cardoso Sounds Warning As Mamelodi Sundowns Prepare For Tough Mali Test After Dominant First-Leg Win

Despite taking a commanding lead in their CAF Champions League tie, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso is not expecting an easy outing when his side travels to Mali for the second leg against Stade Malien.

The Brazilians secured a convincing 3-0 win in the first leg in Tshwane, placing them firmly in control of the tie. However, Cardoso believes the return fixture could pose a completely different challenge, especially with conditions expected to favour the home side.

The Portuguese coach stressed that Sundowns will need to lean on their experience and squad depth to navigate the encounter successfully.

Artificial Pitch and Heat Could Test Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rhythm

Cardoso pointed out that the match conditions in Mali may slow down the tempo of the game and make it harder for Sundowns to impose their usual style of play.

The encounter will take place on an artificial pitch, while high temperatures are also expected to influence the pace of the match.

“Obviously it will be a dry pitch and that makes the game slower and also the temperature that we are going to have there will be very high, so the rhythm will be slower, but with our experience and the players we have I believe we can have a good game there and fight for a result.”

To ensure smoother travel arrangements ahead of the crucial fixture, Sundowns plan to charter a flight for the squad ahead of the clash in Bamako next Sunday.

Mamelodi Sundowns Shift Focus to Crucial Betway Premiership Clash Against Marumo Gallants

Before turning their full attention to the continental trip, Cardoso wants his players locked in on their upcoming Betway Premiership match against Marumo Gallants.

The two sides will meet on Tuesday night at the same venue where Sundowns defeated Stade Malien in the first leg, and the coach expects a difficult battle despite Gallants’ position on the league table.

“I think the most important thing is that that everybody focuses on the Marumo Gallants match. It’s a match that is important and they are a team, despite their position on the table, who are tough and we need to remember how our last match went with them – unfortunately its a bad memory, because we were a little complacent in that game.”

Cardoso also revealed that his team selection will prioritise the physical condition of his players rather than simply resting key names ahead of the Champions League trip.
