Cape Town Thieves Caught Red-Handed Dragging Stolen Bus Shelter

Three suspects have been arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning after they were caught dragging a stolen bus stop shelter along Old Strandfontein Road in the Lotus River area.

The bizarre theft which happened in Cape Town was foiled thanks to swift action by law enforcement officers.

According to City of Cape Town Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason, officers responded to a tip-off received at 3:30 a.m. regarding vandalism and theft of public property.

Suspects Tried To Flee With Bus Shelter

“When officers arrived at the scene, they witnessed three men dragging a bus shelter,” said Dyason. “The suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended by the officers.”

The incident occurred near Lotus River, a residential suburb south of the Cape Town CBD.

The stolen Cape Town structure appeared to have been forcibly removed from its original position, prompting further investigation by law enforcement on site.

Housebreaking Tools Recovered During Arrest

Upon detaining the suspects, officers discovered housebreaking tools in their possession, suggesting the theft may have been premeditated.

The men were subsequently taken to the Grassy Park police station and are now facing charges of malicious damage to property and possession of housebreaking implements.

Authorities of Cape Town have urged residents to report vandalism and theft of public infrastructure, which costs millions to replace each year.
