Cape Town Police Probe Two Teen Killings After Weekend Attacks

Two 17-year-old boys have been killed in separate incidents in Cape Town as police continue investigations into both cases.
Mitchells Plain Shooting Under Investigation
Seventeen-year-old Uzair Bedeker was shot on Friday night in Glenside Road, Morgan Village, Mitchells Plain.
Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala said: “The deceased sustained one gunshot wound and was transported to a medical facility where he succumbed to the injuries.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, and the motive is yet to be determined. No arrest has been effected at this stage, investigation is ongoing.”
Bedeker, who played for the under-18 team at Juventus AFC in Lentegeur, was buried on Sunday.
Cape Town Community Leaders Condemn Killing
Lentegeur Community Policing Forum chairperson Michael Jacobs condemned the incident.
“As the Mitchells Plain United Residents Association, we strongly condemn the killing of a 17-year-old in the Lentegeur precinct.
“These senseless shootings in which our young people are mowed down with impunity on our streets of fear are totally unacceptable, and we call on the community to intensify the fight against drugs and gangsterism by working with law enforcement agencies,” he said.
Elsies River Robbery Attack Turns Fatal
In a separate incident in Uitsig, Elsies River, a 17-year-old Valhalla High School learner died after being stabbed during an alleged robbery on Saturday.
Gwala said: “According to reports, the three victims, aged 16, 17 and 25, were approached by two male suspects attempting to rob them.
“One of the suspects stabbed the victims, and the 17-year-old succumbed to the injuries. A tracing operation is underway to locate the suspect; no arrest has been made yet.”

Valhalla High School expressed condolences following the incident.
“No words can truly express the sadness and shock our school community is experiencing. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved [him].
“May we come together during this difficult time to support one another, show kindness, and stand united against violence in all its forms.”
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made in either case. Investigations are ongoing.
