International Flights Suspended At Cape Town International Airport After Fire Disrupts Operations

International flights in and out of Cape Town International Airport in the Western Cape have been suspended following a fire on Tuesday morning, Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) has confirmed.

Flights bound for the airport from international destinations have been diverted, while departures have been temporarily halted as a precaution.

The disruption comes after a blaze reportedly left parts of the airport without power, affecting key infrastructure and passenger processing systems.

Acsa said the fire had an impact on its network and IT services, including airport Wi-Fi and “other essential systems”.

“As a precautionary measure, international departures have been temporarily suspended, and incoming international flights are being diverted.”

According to The Citizen, an insider indicated that major infrastructure and international airline offices were damaged in the blaze, disrupting critical passenger processing operations.

International flights that had already landed at the time of the suspension are still being processed at the airport.

What Travellers Need To Know About Domestic Flights

While international operations have been directly affected, Acsa advised domestic passengers to stay in close contact with their airlines.

Passengers travelling on domestic departures or arriving on domestic flights have been urged to check directly with their respective airlines and the Acsa mobile app for updated flight information.
