Cape Town Gun Violence Endangers Innocent Lives, Says Bishop Lavis Sub-Council Chair

Cape Town’s ongoing gun violence continues to threaten innocent lives, according to Angus McKenzie, chairperson of the Bishop Lavis and Bontheuwel sub-council.
McKenzie made the comments following a shooting incident on Monday afternoon, where a 35-year-old man was shot and wounded outside the Bishop Lavis clinic.
Police confirmed that the victim was struck in the chest and shoulders before running into the clinic to seek help.
Police Appeal for Witnesses After Drive-By Shooting
Authorities have urged anyone who witnessed the drive-by attack or has information about the suspects to contact the police immediately.
McKenzie acknowledged the difficulties faced by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in dealing with escalating gang violence in Cape Town communities.

“It is very difficult under the prevailing circumstances that the South African Police Service find themselves under to permanently deploy police in every single corner of these areas,” he said.

He added that the persistent gang-related shootings continue to place innocent residents in danger and emphasised the importance of community involvement in ending the violence.
“Shootings continue, the internal gang battles are continuing, and it is placing the lives of innocent people at risk, and the only way that we can overcome this is when communities work with the law enforcement agencies in these areas,” McKenzie said.
