Cape Town Fire Contained After Raging Blaze Near Maitland Cemetery — No Fatalities Reported

Firefighters have successfully brought a devastating blaze under control after it erupted opposite the Maitland Cemetery in Cape Town on Friday evening.

The fire tore through multiple informal structures before rescue teams managed to contain it. According to city officials, emergency crews remain stationed in the area to monitor potential flare-ups and ensure residents’ safety.

The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre is working closely with local organisations to provide aid to those affected by the fire.

Humanitarian Support Mobilised for Affected Residents

Relief efforts are already underway as the aid organisation Gift of the Givers steps in to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance to displaced families. The group has been providing essential supplies while city officials assess the full extent of the damage.

“Several crews are still on scene, but the fire has been contained. At this stage, the white marquee tent and several other structures have been destroyed. No injuries or fatalities have been reported,” confirmed Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Services.
