Cape Town Driver Arrested After Confrontation With Traffic Officer

A Cape Town man has been arrested following a roadside confrontation with a traffic officer that escalated into a heated exchange captured on video and widely shared online.

The incident occurred on Monday when a traffic officer observed a Honda FRV driving recklessly on the N1 outbound onto the Durban Road bridge.

City of Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson Kevin Jacobs explained that the officer stopped the driver for questioning.

The man allegedly became aggressive and failed to comply with instructions, prompting authorities to call in South African Police Service (SAPS) officers for backup.

Arrest and Legal Action

The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, and assault. He was subsequently detained at Bellville SAPS. Officials confirmed that no injuries resulted from the incident.

Social media footage shows the driver refusing to cooperate while shouting, “Don’t touch me! Don’t touch me! Hey!”
