Cape Town Couple Evacuate Children And Pets As Roaring Wildfire Threatens Capri Home

A fast-moving wildfire swept across the Roodeberg mountain range in the Jonkersdam area of Table Mountain National Park on Thursday night, prompting emergency action from nearby residents.

Firefighters successfully contained the fire, aided by a spotter plane and a waterbombing helicopter deployed on Friday to tackle flare-ups.

Family Takes Swift Action to Protect Children and Pets

Married couple Aiden and Nina Bunnie, who live in Capri, said the blaze came dangerously close to their thatch-roofed home. “A lot of stress… We have two young children, and so we decided for my wife and our kids to evacuate,” Aiden said.

Nina shared a touching moment with one of their dogs, who refused to leave. “When we actually evacuated, me and the two children and one of our dogs… The other one – a very loyal dog – he just stayed with Aiden while he was spraying the house,” she said.

The couple expressed gratitude to the emergency teams who worked tirelessly overnight to prevent any property damage. Their efforts, combined with aerial support, ensured the fire did not spread further into residential areas.
