Cape Town Cop Shoots Girlfriend Six Times Before Turning Gun On Himself

A quiet Cape Town suburb has been left reeling after a horrific murder-suicide in Baracouta Street, Monte Vista, on Tuesday afternoon. A police officer attached to the Bellville Crime Prevention Unit allegedly shot his girlfriend six times before turning the gun on himself.

Bodies Discovered After Girlfriend Failed to Report for Work

According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), the incident is believed to have taken place on Monday night, but the bodies were only discovered the following day when the woman failed to arrive for work.

Ipid spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said neighbours reported hearing gunshots around 8pm on Monday but did not alert authorities.
“It is alleged that neighbours heard several gunshots at around 8pm. However, the police were not called,” Shuping said.

On Tuesday afternoon, concerned colleagues visited the woman’s home and, together with her sister, made the grisly discovery. “The sister found the female deceased lying on her bed with multiple gunshot wounds, and her boyfriend — a SAPS member — lying on the floor,” said Shuping.

Ipid Takes Over Investigation

Preliminary reports indicate that the woman was shot six times in the upper body, while the police officer sustained a single gunshot wound to the head.

“The pathologist confirmed both deceased at the scene. It appears that the female deceased was shot six times in the upper body, and the male deceased had a single gunshot wound to the head. It is alleged that the cop shot the female and then turned the gun on himself,” Shuping confirmed.

The slain officer was scheduled to report for a night shift but failed to do so.

Goodwood Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Abdullah Sydney described the case as “extremely sensitive” and said it had been registered for Ipid investigation. “It is being treated as a murder and it’s at a very sensitive stage,” he said.

Cape Town Community in Shock

The Monte Vista community has been left in disbelief following the tragedy. Residents described the couple as “quiet people” and expressed deep sadness over the circumstances.

Ipid continues to investigate the case, while grief counsellors are expected to be deployed to support family members and affected colleagues.
