Cape Town Businesswoman Sentenced For Failing To Submit Tax Returns

A Cape Town businesswoman, Fiona Mutongwizo (39), and her company have been found guilty on 12 counts of failing to submit income tax returns to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
The Bellville Magistrate’s Court handed down a suspended sentence on the businesswoman and imposed a fine totaling R48,000.

According to Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani, spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), the offences by the businesswoman occurred between 2022 and 2024.
The judgment it’s an indication by SARS and the Hawks to crack down on tax non-compliance in South Africa.
Fine Payable In Instalments Until 2027
The court ordered the businesswoman to immediately pay R5,000 be made on the day of sentencing.

The remaining R43,000 is to be paid in monthly instalments of R2,150.

The final payment is due by January 2, 2027.
“All payments are to be made to the Clerk of the Bellville Magistrate’s Court,” said Hani.
This structured payment plan ensures that both the individual and her company remain accountable over an extended period.
SARS Tightens Grip On Non-Compliant Taxpayers

The authorities have restated it’s commitment ensuring that businesses and individuals meet their tax obligations.
