Cape Town Boy, 5, Succumbs To Gang Bullet Wound After Tragic Shooting

Ameer Abrahams, a five-year-old boy from Manenberg, Cape Town, tragically passed away on Wednesday morning after being struck in the head by a gang-related bullet earlier this week.

The young boy’s heartbroken family confirmed that life support machines were switched off shortly after 11 a.m. at Red Cross Children’s Hospital, following two days of desperate attempts to save his life.

Boy Caught in the Crossfire

Ameer was walking to a nearby shop on Irvine Street with his father and eight-month-old sister on Monday evening when the tragedy unfolded. As gunshots rang out, the little boy attempted to run into a neighbour’s yard but collapsed after being struck.

He was rushed to Red Cross Children’s Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery to remove the bullet. Despite their efforts, Ameer was declared brain-dead on Tuesday.

A family member recounted the emotional moment Ameer’s mother said her final goodbye: “The machines were switched off, and he was placed in his mother’s lap as she said goodbye. His father, who never left his side since the incident, was inconsolable and broke down completely.”

Residents of Manenberg, devastated by the loss, had gathered on Tuesday in Irvine Street, praying for Ameer’s recovery.

Arrests Made

Police have confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the shooting. The incident is believed to be gang-related, as Manenberg continues to grapple with violence that often claims innocent lives.

The tragic death of young Ameer has once again shown the devastating impact of gang violence on communities in Cape Town. Local residents and leaders are calling for urgent action to address the scourge of violence that has left countless families shattered.

Ameer’s family is now left to mourn the loss of their beloved child, who became yet another victim of senseless violence. His passing has left a community heartbroken and demanding justice for the innocent lives caught in the crossfire.
