Cape Flats Gun Violence Continues Despite Army And Police Deployment In Cape Town

Gun violence continues to grip the Cape Flats, with a series of shootings reported even as security forces intensify efforts to restore order in affected communities.
Incidents were recorded overnight in Kalksteenfontein, Wesbank, Delft and Bonteheuwel, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in curbing gang-related crime.
Members of the South African National Defence Force have been deployed alongside the South African Police Service since Wednesday, supporting police-led operations targeting hotspots across Cape Town.
Cape Flats Shooting Incidents Leave Several Injured In Wesbank
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed that four people—two men and two women—were wounded in a shooting believed to be linked to gang activity in Wesbank.
“According to reports the two male victims were chased by unknown suspects who opened fire on them. The two female victims were caught in the crossfire. The victims were transported to a medical facility for treatment in Kalksteenfontein,” said Twigg.
The incident adds to a growing list of violent episodes in the area, as residents remain caught in the crossfire of ongoing gang conflicts.
Gang Crossfire Hits Bystanders In Bishop Lavis Area
Twigg added that a separate shooting left three bystanders injured at the corner of Jakkalsvlei Avenue and Valhalla Drive.
“Upon arrival on the scene they found three males aged between 15 and 21 who sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies.
“According to reports the victims were standing on the mentioned corners when gunshots went off. Bishop Lavis detectives are investigating three counts of attempted murder,” said Twigg.

Authorities have opened investigations into the incidents, with detectives working to track down those responsible as violence persists across the Cape Flats.
