Controversial Businessman Lays Criminal Charges Against Dumisani Khumalo: ‘He Lied Under Oath!’

Controversial businessman Stuart James Scharnick has laid criminal charges, including defeating the ends of justice, against the head of the SAPS Crime Intelligence Division, Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo.

The charges were opened at the Pretoria Central Police Station on Wednesday, following Khumalo’s explosive testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where he labelled Scharnick a “serial hijacker” allegedly tied to criminal syndicates.

‘I’m No Serial Hijacker,’ Says Furious Scharnick

In his testimony before the commission, Khumalo claimed that Scharnick had a long rap sheet — including over 30 criminal cases, 18 convictions, and ties to embattled deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, whose official bakkie was allegedly registered in Scharnick’s name.

But an angry Scharnick hit back, dismissing the claims as false and defamatory. He admitted to having prior convictions but insisted none were for hijacking.

“We have to start with the lies he put on record — that I was convicted of 18 hijackings. I have not been convicted of one hijacking in my life,” Scharnick told journalists outside the police station.

“If General Khumalo had any intelligence as head of intelligence, he would have phoned the Local Criminal Record Centre to verify the facts. Instead, he chose to lie under oath and mislead the Commission.”

Businessman Opens Three Criminal Cases Against Khumalo

Scharnick confirmed he had opened three cases against Khumalo — for perjury, contravening the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and defeating the ends of justice.

He accused Khumalo of causing irreparable damage to his name and family, vowing to pursue civil action in addition to the criminal complaints.

“My constitutional rights have been trampled by this man,” he said. “His lack of intelligence and what he said is borderline idiotic — and the fact that he said it before the Madlanga Commission is shocking.”

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry was set up to investigate corruption, misconduct, and maladministration within the top ranks of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
