Bryanston Bust: Undocumented Foreign Nationals Nabbed In Dramatic Hijacked Home Raid

The City of Johannesburg’s Public Safety Department executed a high-impact raid at an allegedly hijacked home in Bryanston after the rightful owners returned from holiday to find their property illegally occupied.

Law enforcement and City officials moved swiftly to “restore order and ensure the home is handed back to its owners.” Authorities confirmed that “arrests are being effected, and undocumented foreigners are being detained as part of the operation.”

More than 40 individuals have been arrested, including undocumented foreign nationals.

MMC Tshwaku Confronted as Bryanston Raid Turns Heated

MMC for Public Safety Dr Mgcini Tshwaku became embroiled in a tense exchange when a man believed to be living in or managing the property accused him of political campaigning. Tshwaku dismissed the accusation and in turn questioned the man about what he might be hiding.

Inside the house, officials found the interior in a severe state of neglect, with peeling paint, unsafe wiring and illegal electricity connections spread throughout the property.

Zozo Huts, Illegal Rentals and Shocking Conditions

Beyond the deteriorated structure, officials discovered multiple wooden zozo huts crammed into the former garden. Tshwaku said occupants living in these makeshift structures were being charged R2,000 per room each month.

The operation remains underway as authorities clear the property and investigate the alleged hijacking. This is a developing story.
