Brown Mogotsi Finally Meets Police After Vanishing Post-Shooting

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that North West businessman and political fixer Brown Mogotsi, a close associate of suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, has finally met with investigators following an alleged assassination attempt that left his car riddled with bullets.
The shooting occurred on Monday night in Vosloorus, when Mogotsi’s Chevrolet sedan was struck by approximately 11 bullets, police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said. Miraculously, Mogotsi escaped unharmed.

Initially, Mogotsi refused to give a formal statement, claiming to be too traumatised. By Wednesday morning, he still had not provided his account, prompting police to describe him as an “uncollaborative complainant.” His initial reluctance mirrors his previous non-cooperation during a search and seizure operation at his North West residence last month.

By Wednesday afternoon, SAPS confirmed that investigators had met with Mogotsi and his lawyers.
“Yes, we can now confirm that the investigating team is meeting with Mr Mogotsi and his lawyers at his lawyers’ offices,” Mathe said.
Allegations On Brown Mogotsi and Commission Scrutiny
The alleged hit comes amid mounting pressure on Mogotsi, who faces serious allegations before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, currently probing political interference in police operations.
Last month, the commission gave Mogotsi five days to respond to claims implicating him in improper dealings. This followed a raid on 16 October at his Seweding village business premises in Mahikeng, where police seized devices and equipment he had allegedly failed to surrender.
Following Monday’s shooting, the commission expressed grave concern over Mogotsi’s safety.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said discussions were under way with Mogotsi’s legal team to arrange potential witness protection.
“We are in ongoing discussions with him and his legal representatives to secure his appearance before the commission. We have offered him protection and remain concerned about his safety,” Michaels said.
Upcoming Testimony
Mogotsi is expected to testify before the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee investigating political interference on 18, 19, and 20 November. His testimony is anticipated to shed light on alleged connections between senior police officials and political figures.
His name was first mentioned by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who linked Mogotsi to ongoing interference claims within the SAPS hierarchy.
With tensions rising and his credibility under the spotlight, Mogotsi’s next public appearance could prove pivotal — both for the inquiry and for his own safety.
