Brown Mogotsi Arrested Over Alleged Staged Assassination Attempt After Madlanga Commission Testimony

Political fixer Brown Mogotsi has been arrested for allegedly staging an assassination attempt in Vosloorus and defeating the ends of justice. The arrest reportedly took place shortly after Mogotsi completed his testimony before the Madlanga Commission on Friday.

The South African Police Service confirmed that a multidisciplinary team carried out the arrest following investigations linked to the alleged incident.

Brown Mogotsi Arrest Linked To Alleged Vosloorus Assassination Plot

Although police did not officially identify the suspect by name, SAPS confirmed that a J50 warrant of arrest had been executed. Authorities said the suspect was arrested on charges related to defeating the ends of justice.

According to police, the matter stems from the alleged staging of an attempted assassination in Vosloorus. Investigators believe the incident may have been orchestrated rather than being a genuine attack.

SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed details surrounding the investigation in a statement released on Friday.

Firearm Linked To Murder And Attempted Murder Cases

Mathe said preliminary investigations uncovered further concerns regarding the firearm allegedly used in the incident. Police believe the weapon may be connected to several other violent crimes.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the firearm used in the commission of the crime has also been linked to other serious and violent crimes, including cases of murder and attempted murder,” Mathe said.

Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details about the linked cases as investigations continue.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 18 May 2026. Police have indicated that investigations into the matter remain ongoing.

The arrest has drawn attention due to its timing shortly after testimony at the Madlanga Commission. More details are expected to emerge once the matter returns to court.

SAPS has not ruled out the possibility of additional charges or further arrests linked to the case.
