Brothers Arrested For Durban Businessman’s Murder In Umhlanga

KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested two brothers in connection with the murder of Durban businessman Shailen Singh, 32, who was ambushed and fatally shot on Sunday in Umhlanga.

The arrests were made on New Year’s Day, with the suspects—a security company CEO and his brother—being taken into custody by the provincial organised crime, murder, and robbery unit.

Victim Ambushed on Meridian Drive

Singh, driving a Toyota Hilux, was attacked on Meridian Drive, sustaining gunshot wounds to his head, neck, and abdomen. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Singh’s father, Pradeep Singh, expressed his grief and confusion over the motive behind the murder. He revealed his son had previously received threats but was not familiar with the suspects.

Family Devastated by the Loss

The young businessman leaves behind a grieving wife and a two-month-old son.

“There was excessive force used,” Singh’s father said, adding that the family was shattered by the tragedy.

Police recovered two vehicles reportedly seen leaving the scene after the murder. The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

KZN police spokesperson Lt-Col Robert Netshiunda commended the swift action of detectives in apprehending the suspects.
