Bronkhorstspruit Tavern Shooting: Sole Survivor Shares Terrifying Ordeal As Five Killed

A woman who narrowly escaped a mass shooting at a tavern in Zithobeni, Bronkhorstspruit, has shared chilling details of the night that claimed five lives.
Deliwe Nkabini, the sole surviving witness, said she and her brother managed to escape unharmed but tragically watched her boyfriend die in the chaos.

She spoke outside the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where the suspect arrested in connection with the killings made his first appearance.
The deadly attack took place earlier this month at Qedukoma Tavern, where gunmen opened fire, leaving five patrons dead and several others traumatised.
Witness Describes Chaos and Terror During Attack
Nkabini described the horrifying moments when gunfire erupted without warning.
“We heard gunshots, and it was chaos,” she recalled. “I covered my face, screaming, then I saw my brother from afar, also on the floor, trying to call me to come to him, and I saw blood coming out of his mouth.”
She said she then saw her partner lying lifeless on the floor.
“When I opened my eyes, I saw bullets just firing at him,” she said. “Before we managed to run away, dragging my brother.”
Community Still in Shock After Tragic Shooting
The Zithobeni community remains reeling from the attack, with residents calling for tighter security and justice for the victims.

Police have not released further details about the suspect or motive, but the investigation continues.
