Brink Ready To Balance DA Leadership Role And Tshwane Mayoral Bid After Federal Congress Victory

Cilliers Brink, the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) mayoral candidate for Tshwane, says he is confident he can manage both his campaign and his newly secured leadership role within the party.

Brink was elected as the DA’s deputy federal chairperson during the party’s federal congress held in Midrand over the weekend. The position forms part of a three-member leadership structure tasked with shaping key organisational decisions.

His election marks another shift in a political career that has seen him move from Parliament to local government.

Brink previously served as a DA Member of Parliament before being redeployed to the City of Tshwane as mayor, a role he later lost following a vote of no confidence. He now serves as a councillor while leading the party’s mayoral race in the capital.

Brink Confident In Managing Dual Political Responsibilities

With local government elections on the horizon, Brink dismissed concerns about the demands of holding both positions, insisting he would not have accepted the nomination if he believed the roles were incompatible.

“I would not have agreed to the nomination if I did not think that this could be combined with my candidacy in Tshwane. To me, professionally and politically, the race in Tshwane is critically important.

“I believe I can make a contribution while being the Tshwane candidate. I think that holding this position might draw some prominence to this race and how important it is for the party.”

Key Leadership Role In DA Decision-Making Structures

As deputy federal chairperson, Brink joins a leadership collective responsible for overseeing the DA’s administration and contributing to major strategic decisions within the party.

The role is considered influential in guiding the organisation’s direction, particularly as political parties gear up for upcoming elections.

Brink’s dual responsibilities are expected to place him at the centre of both local campaigning in Tshwane and broader national party operations in the months ahead.
