3-Year-Old Boy Shot While Sleeping In Mitchells Plain

A three-year-old boy was wounded in the leg after gunfire ripped through a wendy house in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, during the early hours of Friday, 26 September 2025.
According to police, a bullet penetrated the wooden structure and struck the child while he was asleep. His father discovered the wound after the toddler began crying.
The boy was rushed to a medical facility for treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were not fatal.
Community Forum Reacts After Boy Shot
Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson, Norman Jantjes, described the incident as a stark reminder of the gun violence plaguing the area.
“Fortunately it wasn’t fatal. I cannot confirm who the shooters were or whether the father was the potential target, but it’s an indication of the ongoing gun violence in Mitchells Plain,” Jantjes said.
He added that despite increased police visibility, firearms remain widespread in the community.
Police Confirm Investigation
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that an attempted murder case is under investigation.
“Mitchells Plain police registered an attempted murder case for investigation following a shooting incident in the early hours of Friday morning in Tennis Street, Beacon Valley, in which a three-year-old boy was wounded. According to reports the victim was sleeping in the wendy house when gunshots went off outside,” said Twigg.
