Faking It! Bonang Matheba And Nomzamo Mbatha Forced To Play Besties At McDonald’s Gig?

Yoh, hayi guys — these two could have done better! Bonang Matheba and Nomzamo Mbatha might have smiled for the cameras at the McDonald’s Foldover Chicken launch in Johannesburg on 17 September 2025, but Mzansi isn’t fooled.
The pair, who have long been rumoured frenemies, were spotted posing together and even sharing a laugh at the glitzy event. But behind those smiles? Fans swear the tension was cutting through the room like a blunt knife.
Nomzamo And Bonang Matheba Rumoured Beef That Won’t Die
No one really knows what sparked the fallout between these two powerhouse stars. Some blame jealousy over each other’s success, while others believe personal disagreements destroyed what once looked like a close friendship.
The last time Bonang and Nomzamo were seen in the same room was back in November 2024 at the Prize Awards — and chile, the vibe was so icy you could’ve skated on it. Fast-forward to 2025, and a paid McDonald’s cheque seems to have brought them together for a “truce.” LOL, the things money makes people do!

Fans Clock the Awkward Energy
Mzansi social media wasted no time dissecting the snaps and clips from the launch:
@popmzansi asked: “Is it real or just for the cameras?”
@Compaqllow laughed: “Nomzamo and Bonang pretending to like each other is killing me.”
@TheeBLCKBARBI joked: “You can cut the tension with a blunt knife.”
@KhanyieMahlangu sighed: “And they were besties at some point, this life?”
Cameras On, Beef On Ice
While the Foldover campaign had both ladies looking stunning and unbothered, the streets are convinced this was nothing more than a PR performance.
And just when you thought the “fake besties” act was messy enough, Mzansi came harder with another drag: the McDonald’s collab itself.
Let’s not forget — the fast-food giant was on the global chopping block in 2023 after its Israeli franchise donated thousands of meals to the Israeli military while Palestinians were being slaughtered. Even though McDonald’s SA tried to distance itself from the mess, South Africans weren’t buying it. The brand got boycotted hard, and many still see it as complicit in genocide.

So when Bonang and Nomzamo popped out smiling in a campaign with the chain? The streets said: “Y’all don’t care about nothing but the cheque.”
Here’s what the TL had to say:
@ReignQueendom: “It’s extremely disappointing to see Bonang and Nomzamo featured in a McDonald’s ad.”
@black85607: “Ah, the genocidal maniacs! Supporting the apartheid state of Israel. Expected it from Nomzamo, not Bonang!”
@LeboSopazi: “The money is long because why would anyone collaborate with their nemesis for a company that supports Israel? I’d expect this of Bonang, but I thought Nomzamo had more brain cells than that.”

@PetiteEbonyGirl: “Both these people stand for nothing but the bag. You guys need to reconsider your parasocial relationships with celebrities, who would write your death for the right price.”
@bevditsie: “We were violently attacked when we called out this ‘activism’ performance. We were told we are jealous. A ‘human rights activist’ supporting a brand that feeds genocide? You can’t make this up.”
@JoshuaDladla: “I don’t care for Bonang; she is always desperate. Nomzamo is the biggest disappointment. She did the UN Ambassadorship as content. She believes in nothing but money. And this comes a DAY after the UN said Israel is committing genocide? Embarrassing.”
