WATCH| CCTV And Bodycam Footage Shows Dramatic Arrest Of Melany Viljoen And Husband Petrus Viljoen

South African reality TV fans are gagged right now after explosive police bodycam footage surfaced showing former The Real Housewives of Pretoria personality Melany Viljoen and her husband Petrus Viljoen being arrested in the United States.

The chaotic clips, which were shared by Carte Blanche on social media, show the dramatic moment American police confronted the South African couple over an alleged retail theft scheme that investigators say had been going on for months. And yes, the internet has plenty to say about it.

Authorities in Boca Raton, Florida, claim the pair stole thousands of dollars’ worth of goods from a local branch of Publix Super Markets using a sneaky self-checkout trick.

Let’s just say… the bodycam footage is messy.

Bodycam Footage Shows Tense Arrest Outside Luxury Apartment

In one clip doing the rounds online, Peet is seen outside the couple’s upscale apartment complex questioning officers as they cuff him.

A female detective wearing the body camera calmly explains that the arrest relates to a long-running retail theft investigation.

According to police, Peet was informed he would be transported to headquarters for questioning before being booked into county jail.

But that wasn’t the end of the drama.

Another video shows Mel — dressed in a white gown — appearing confused while officers place her in handcuffs outside the building. At one point she asks if she can make a phone call, only to be told it would happen later through official channels.

Social media users quickly latched onto the clip, with many shocked to see the once-glam reality TV personality caught in such a chaotic moment.

Alleged “Ticket Switching” Scheme at Publix Supermarket

Investigators say the couple allegedly used a method called “ticket switching” at the self-checkout counters.

Police claim the trick involved scanning the barcode of cheaper items while bagging far more expensive products.

Authorities allege the pair worked together during the incidents — with Peet allegedly distracting staff while Mel scanned items.

The arrest report claims the scheme took place over 52 separate transactions, with hundreds of products allegedly leaving the store without being properly paid for.

Some of the items listed in the report include:

  • Sparkling wine such as La Marca Prosecco
  • San Pellegrino sparkling water
  • Organic bananas
  • Coca-Cola Zero
  • Household basics like toilet paper

Police also say the couple frequently arrived at the supermarket in a black Range Rover during the alleged incidents.

Mel’s Emotional Explanation to Police

During questioning, Mel reportedly told officers she had turned to shoplifting because she was in “survival mode.”

She allegedly explained that relocating to the United States had left her struggling to find employment due to visa limitations.

In another account included in the police report, Mel reportedly insisted she acted alone and claimed her husband was not involved in the alleged scheme.

However, investigators believe otherwise.

A Boca Raton police officer wrote in the report that the Viljoens “worked together during multiple acts of organised retail theft” over the past several months.

Both Mel and Peet were taken to a detention facility in West Palm Beach following their arrests.

Authorities charged the couple with organised retail theft, which is classified as a felony under US law.

They were later released after each posting $10,000 bail (about R170,000).

For now, the case remains under investigation — but the viral bodycam footage has already set South African social media ablaze.

And naturally, fans of The Real Housewives of Pretoria are split.

Some say the couple deserves the legal consequences, while others believe the situation is more complicated than it appears.

Either way, the drama is very much giving reality TV… just not the kind that airs on streaming apps.

What do you think, fam? Is this a desperate situation gone wrong — or something far more calculated?
