Body Found in Mangroves Sparks Murder Investigation

A disturbing discovery was made along the Umgeni River when a member of the public found the body of an unidentified man in the mangroves.

The discovery, made at approximately 12:40 PM, led to immediate police action and a murder investigation.

The member of the public flagged down a Marshall Security armed response officer on Riverside Road, who confirmed the presence of the body.

Foul Play Suspected

Marshall Security’s managing director, Tyron Powell, reported that a trail of blood was found leading from a nearby pedestrian walkway to the body.

A knife was also located at the scene, prompting suspicion of foul play.

Upon arrival, the Special Operations Team from Marshall Security, along with Greenwood Park SAPS officers, cordoned off the crime scene.

Due to the challenging terrain, the SAPS and Metro Police Search and Rescue teams assisted in retrieving the body.

Police Investigation

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed the body belonged to a male, approximately 30 years old, with visible bruises on his body.

Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

A murder case has been opened by the Greenwood Park police, and officers are working to identify the man and determine the exact cause of death.
