Cape Town School Caretaker Arrested For Alleged Sexual Assault Of 11-Year-Old Pupil

An 11-year-old Grade 4 learner at Emithini Primary School in Bloekombos, Cape Town, has shown immense bravery after allegedly being sexually assaulted by the school’s caretaker. The incident came to light when the girl wrote a letter to her mother detailing the traumatic events that occurred last Thursday and Friday.
According to the victim’s aunt, the letter stated that the caretaker “touched her private part and forced her to kiss him.” This powerful act of disclosure set in motion a swift response from the family and authorities.
Family’s Anguish and Fear: “We Hope He Rots in Jail”
The young victim’s family is reeling from the incident, expressing deep concern for her well-being and the safety of other children. The aunt revealed the chilling details, explaining that the caretaker, believed to be around 70 years old, allegedly pulled the girl into a small house used by caretakers near the school gate.
“She is only 11 years old… I don’t think she is the only child he did it to, I think some of the children are scared to speak out,” the aunt said, urging for greater protection for pupils. The family has taken the girl for counselling and tests at Karl Bremer Hospital. Their hope is clear: “We hope he rots in jail for our child and other children’s safety.”

School Caretaker Suspension, Arrest, and Ongoing Investigations
In response to the allegations, the school suspended the caretaker last Friday. Kraaifontein police arrested him on Monday after registering a case of sexual harassment. Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that the specialised Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit will lead the investigation into the incidents, which are reported to have occurred between August 21-22, 2025.
The Western Cape Education Department has also confirmed that the matter is under investigation by the district directorate and will be handed to labour relations, indicating a multi-faceted approach to addressing the grave allegations.
