Bitcoin Surges Past $125,000 To Set New Record Amid US Political Uncertainty

Bitcoin has reached a historic milestone, climbing above the $125,000 mark on Sunday. The cryptocurrency peaked at $125,689, surpassing its previous record of around $124,500 set in August.
The surge continues Bitcoin’s strong upward momentum, with market analysts pointing to investor caution over a possible US government shutdown as a key driver behind the latest rally.
Investor Confidence Grows Amid Market Uncertainty
According to Bloomberg News, Bitcoin’s rise has been supported by gains in US equities, with some investors seeking safe-haven assets while political negotiations over federal government funding continue in Washington.
The uncertainty has fuelled a shift towards digital assets, as traders hedge against potential volatility in traditional markets.
“With many assets including equities, gold and even collectibles like Pokémon cards hitting all-time highs, it’s no surprise Bitcoin is benefiting from the dollar debasement narrative,” said Joshua Lim, co-head of markets at crypto prime brokerage firm FalconX.
Trump’s Crypto Support Boosts Market Confidence
The cryptocurrency’s rally has also been strengthened by US President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance. Trump and his family have actively promoted digital currencies and are involved in various cryptocurrency ventures, which have notably increased his wealth.

His administration’s embrace of digital assets marks a dramatic shift from the scepticism shown under former President Joe Biden. In July, the US House of Representatives passed three major cryptocurrency bills, signalling a new era of regulatory support for the industry.
