Bishop Lavis Taxi Driver Shot Dead While On Way To Work As Partner Awaits Answers

A Bishop Lavis woman is hoping police will uncover the truth behind the fatal shooting of her partner, who was gunned down while on his way to work last Friday.

Cheslin Isaacs, 37, was driving along Lavis Drive to collect retail workers for their morning shift when he was shot. He was found dead inside his taxi, slumped over the steering wheel.

Edwina “Biebie” Karsten said the incident has left her devastated as her partner was simply carrying out his daily work.

Karsten said the morning started like any other as the couple focused on running their transport business.

“We work for ourselves. I transport learners, and Cheslin had his taxis.

“He was driving that morning because he hadn’t found someone he could truly trust with that specific contract.”

She said the pair had been together for 20 years and she never feared for his safety.

“After his rounds, Cheslin was always home.

“I knew his business; I heard his calls. There were never any threats. This has been a massive shock, and I am just waiting to see what the police investigation reveals.”

Police Continue Investigating Bishop Lavis Taxi Driver Murder

Police have confirmed that the investigation into Isaacs’ murder is ongoing.

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said:

“Kindly be advised that the matter is currently under investigation and no arrest has been effected yet.”

Karsten said the tragedy came just days before her 35th birthday, turning what should have been a celebration into a painful reminder of her loss.

“It just wasn’t the same without him here to share it.”

She described Isaacs as a quiet man who enjoyed spending time at home when he was not working. Although the couple did not have children, she said he remained committed to building their transport business and often spent time on administration.

“Now,” she said, “I will have to go on without him.”

Friends, relatives, colleagues and members of the community are expected to pay tribute to Isaacs during a drive-by memorial service on Thursday, 2 July 2026. His funeral will take place on Sunday, 5 July.
