Bishop Lavis Man Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend

A Bishop Lavis man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the face during a violent attack in Nooitgedacht. The suspect is expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court on Wednesday on a charge of attempted murder.

The incident reportedly unfolded in Bream Way on Sunday evening while the woman was visiting friends in the area. Police said the suspect allegedly fled after the attack but was later tracked down and arrested.

Attempted Murder Case Opened After Nooitgedacht Stabbing

According to police, the victim, who lives in Hout Bay, had been spending time with friends when her former boyfriend approached her. The suspect, who is from Bishop Lavis, allegedly assaulted her before stabbing her in the face with a knife.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed details surrounding the attack. “According to reports, the girlfriend who resides in Hout Bay was visiting friends in Bream Way, Nooitgedaght on Sunday, 10 May when her ex-boyfriend, who is from Bishop Lavis, approached and assaulted her, stabbing her in her face with a knife.”

Initially, a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) was registered. The charge was later upgraded to attempted murder.

Bishop Lavis Community Members Rush Injured Woman To Hospital

Bishop Lavis Community Policing Forum Chairperson Amanda Davids said she was alerted to the incident by concerned residents shortly after it happened. She explained that the victim was reportedly unresponsive when community members stepped in to assist.

Davids said: “I received a call from a community member around 9pm on Sunday evening informing me that a lady was stabbed badly in Bream Way by her boyfriend.

“The community member advised that she is unresponsive and that they are taking her to Elsies River day hospital, as they were afraid she would not make it if they waited for an ambulance.”

She added that graphic images and videos from the scene showed the knife lodged in the woman’s face. Davids said she immediately forwarded the information to the Vispol Commander at Bishop Lavis SAPS.

Bishop Lavis SAPS Praised For Swift Arrest

Davids later confirmed that the victim had been transferred to Tygerberg Hospital for further medical treatment. The suspect was subsequently arrested and is now facing attempted murder charges.

Davids praised the quick response from police following the incident. “The BLCPF wants to thank Bishop Lavis SAPS for their swift arrest of the suspect. I hope this sends a loud and clear message to perpetrators of gender-based violence and domestic violence, we will not tolerate it in the Bishop Lavis Precinct.”

The accused appeared before the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
