Bheki Cele Refutes Claims Of Non-Cooperation With Police Corruption Inquiry

Former Police Minister Bheki Cele expressed his dismay at reports suggesting he was unwilling to cooperate with Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating police corruption. Cele made the remarks on Thursday during the first day of his testimony before the committee.

His appearance is expected to cover organised crime syndicates, failures within state institutions, and his experiences working with Members of Parliament. It will also address allegations relating to classified information.

Cele firmly denied ever refusing to work with the committee, emphasising that he had fully cooperated throughout the process.

Bheki Cele Says He Personally Funded His Cooperation Efforts

Addressing the committee, Cele revealed that he had even used his own money to ensure his cooperation, paying for his travel to Cape Town to meet with evidence leaders.

“I was a little bit disturbed when the media said I’m not cooperating, especially one of the KZN papers. It had a big headline that ‘Cele snubs the ad hoc committee’. I have never done that.

“Even the first cooperation, I came here with my own finances, my own ticket, my everything, but I still came here for consultation,” he said.

Cele reiterated his commitment to assisting the inquiry, stressing that he had never missed an opportunity to contribute to the ongoing investigation into police corruption.
