Beach Tragedy: Holidaymaker Dies After Collapsing On KZN Shoreline

A 50-year-old man has died after collapsing on Westbrook Beach on Monday morning, despite extensive efforts to revive him.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a possible drowning incident.

Emergency Response Launched After Beach Incident

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the call, dispatching officers to the beach while a Robinson R44 helicopter was placed on standby in case aerial assistance was required.

Upon arrival, responders found paramedics from multiple private ambulance services already performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on an unresponsive man on the shoreline.

Man Collapsed Moments After Leaving the Water

Initial information indicates that the man, who was visiting from Klerksdorp, had been on holiday in KwaZulu-Natal with his family.

It is understood that he had exited the water shortly before collapsing.

While it is suspected that he may have suffered a heart attack, this had not been officially confirmed at the time.

Despite prolonged attempts to resuscitate him, the man was declared deceased at the scene.

His identity was confirmed by family members who were present during the incident.
